Named for the 1700’s era road on our property where this tree grew – our Milk Road trestle table is inspired by the early American shakers (and a famous rendition by Nakashima) with our own updates. Subtle curves add an element of modernity, while the shape of the feet are influenced by Japanese temples. A 3-dimensional wedged tapered dovetail holds the trestle and the legs together, while subtle brass details round out our design of this Full Circle Furniture piece.
Mortise and tennon joinery is used throughout and secured with brass pegs. The top is reinforced with our own C-channel steel supports and made in-house brass buttons, which account for seasonal movement in the wood and encourage flatness in a piece this size.
Shown in book matched curly maple 3″ thick, 4’wide by 8’long and 29.5″high with a heavy chamfer on the underside, for a pleasing tactile feel. The wood is finished with a 3 step process; hand rubbed oil, built on with a hard wax oil. This finish gets better with age and can be easily amended if any issues arise – our furniture is meant to be lived with and on, its durability measured in centennials.
On this piece it was chosen to forgo “butterfly” or wood patches when fixing small defects in the wood.
Our dining tables are available with free live edges, or more traditional square edges – and with this or many other base designs we may offer. Please contact us for details.
