The natural ebonizing process is inspired from a traditional Japanese technique called Yakasugi for preserving Cypress wood outdoors. Accents and inlays are in a soap finished white ash.
The burning and wire brushing process results in a pronounced yet subtle raised grain. The wood grain is then filled in and polished smooth with many layers of natural oil, rubbed by hand. Joinery consists of Pegged and housed bridle joints. The dovetail keys and pegged joints have a soap finish, to keep them bright white.
The ebonizing process also results in a more hydrophobic wood that is highly resistant to insects or decay.
