This shapely desk was commissioned by the director of a certain Modern Art Museum in Manhattan, for his home office.

Fire ebonized white ash with sugar maple legs and dovetail keys.

The kidney shape works nicely for writing or for computer work.

We would love to make another, in any combination of local hardwoods that we have available.

All the wood for this desk comes from storm downed trees on our farm.

Finished with @sutherlandwelles natural botanical tung oil.

A little drawboring ASMR. Simple and strong, with no glue or nails. The peg must be riven from dead straight grained wood that is “wicked hahd”. The peg acts like a spring, snaking through the offset holes and holding the joint together in tension.
Part of our house is a barn from around the end of the 1700’s, held together with nothing but drawbored mortise and tennons.
